The next edition of Prattle and Run will be out just before the Olympics and it would be good to include details of who’s doing what in connection with the Games.
Are you involved as a volunteer?
Have you managed to get any tickets?
Do you know anyone who’s competing?
If the answer to any of the above is ‘yes’ please let me know – jacquelinewadsworth@btinternet.com

Route: Summer handicap 1 route
Berkeley 10k
It is becoming clear that a number of members have come through the winter in good form, as we see 3 more P.B’s on Monday evening. These were as follows:
Garry Slater is well and truly back from injury, finishing 24th overall and 4th MV40 in an excellent 38:42:6.
Second for the club was Jim Williams 64th overall in 41:57:3
Forth Thornbury runner Liam Jones clocked 43:57:5. Both Liam and Jim ran negative splits, a sign of a very controlled, well paced run.
Other good for age results were:
Nick Langridge: 2nd MV60
Gareth Thomas: 2nd MV65
Sylvia Fox: 2nd FV60
Dorothy Thomas: 3rd FV60
Full results will be on the results page soon.
Chepstow Mob Match 31st May
In just two weeks time we head over the bridge to Chepstow for the annual mob match. Remember everyone counts so we really need as many runners as possible. The following weekend is the long bank holiday weekend so this may make a difference to numbers, so if you can run, please do. We will meet in Rock Street car park and take as few cars as possible.

I’ll be running my leg of the Torch Relay next Tuesday (22nd May). I’m doing a leg along Nags Head Hill, St George, from Jockey Lane to Hillside Road (downhill then up again!) and am due to start at 6.00 pm.
If anyone can get out there to cheer me on, would really appreciate it – Karen and the family don’t want to be there on their own!
Many thanks
Malcolm Carr
To anyone with nothing better to do next Tuesday (22nd May) I have now been reliably informed that I will be playing my part in the Olympic torch relay at ‘approximately’ 6.34pm along the A420 in Bristol starting near waterloo st and finishing at the ‘long bar’ cider bar. Don’t know much more than that but if you happen to be in the neighbourhood any support would be great.
Thanks
Jo

This year, we will be entering two mixed teams in the CWR. We could still do with a couple more reserves, especially a woman, just to cover any last minute drop outs.
Many thanks to Garry for putting the teams together.

We have put together a just giving page for all those running for Hammer Out in this year’s Bristol Half Marathon.
If you are interested in joining the team, and are happy to raise some sponsorship (£25 minimum!) we will provide you with a Hammer Out running vest to wear.
You will need to enter the race yourself as an individual which costs £33 plus a £3 admin fee, making the total outlay £36. Minimum age to race is 17yrs.
To join the just giving team page, use the following link, click on ‘join the team’ (next to the list of Team Members) and follow the instructions from there.
http://www.justgiving.com/teams/partnership
Look forward to hearing from you!

Tuesday’s 5k time trial saw 3 runners gain a PB.
Paul was just one second outside Phil Luckers club record of 16.56, this was not the first time Paul has been one second from a club record. He had the same situation last year with Nick Langridges 10km record. It’s only a matter of time!!
Becky was 45 secs from Judy Nuttings longest standing club record, set in 1986. I really think with some good training (which we all get from Craig at the track) Becky could be on for a club record too.

Route: Handicap recce route This route takes us almost to the start of the Summer Handicap route, but not quite. Group leaders please point this out to any new members when you get to the Kington Lane junction.
5K Time Trial
We had a nice little turn out of 14 runners for this evenings (Tuesday) 5k race at the track. At least 3 people ran a PB time. Thank you to Craig and Sue Carscadden and Gareth Thomas for doing the timing and keeping track on how many laps everyone had still to go. It would be great to see a few more people at the next race on the 12th June.
Frampton 10k
This ever popular race is already sold out. Simon Young would very much like to do it, and is hoping someone may have an unwanted place. Please contact Simon if you do.
Lock Up Rota
This week 10th May, Craig Carscadden and then next week 17th May, Nigel Hale.

Got an old (or not so old) bike in the shed? Hardly ever ride it? Want to put it to good use? We are looking to acquire three decent road bikes for our students.(17inch +). Our students have worked very hard to achieve their bikeability awards on our old boneshakers, but we are looking to upgrade these for them to take part in the B2B in truly inclusive fashion (read more here http://www.justgiving.com/teamprops and here http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/s-Bordeaux-bust-charity-cyclists/story-15519583-detail/story.html ) so if you have any leads please reply to us via the info link.
ABOUT PROPS
PROPS provide opportunities and support for Bristol’s young people with special needs. They have their own facility at the Vassal Centre, Fishponds. Once special needs students leave education at 16 years of age, there are not many places they can continue their learning or self-improvement. This is where PROPS comes in. Their initiatives range from developing education to the promotion of business enterprise and the provision of facilities for recreation and social inclusion.

Circuit Training
Runners pride themselves on their cardiovascular fitness but if you want to run as fast as possible, strength is also a vital – but often negelcted -ingredient. It provides power, stability, and enables you to maintain form even when tired.
Circuit training is an excellent way of building strength, and sessions are held on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Thornbury Leisure Centre which has given the running club tickets for a free trial circuits session on any Monday, 7.15pm, in May.
Also on offer from the leisure centre are free trial tickets for bokwa fitness sessions Monday, 7.15pm (
http://www.bokwafitness.com/), and zumba fitness, Weds / Fri, 6pm, also throughout May.
