Time Keepers Needed

There is currently a shortage of people in the Club who could take over the time-keeping role in our races. This makes us vulnerable if those who have traditionally done this are absent for some reason.  Please let Gareth know if you are willing to attend a short training session to increase these numbers.

Club Night News 19th Jan

Route: Alveston and the Hacket A nice route of almost 7 miles, but the Hacket loop can be missed out if necessary.

Lock Up Rota

This week (19th) is Gareth Thomas and next week (26th) it’s Craig Carscadden.

Rollicking Good Rollick!!!

Congratulations to Dave Andrews and his teams of helpers for yet another great event.

This email was received on Sunday evening by one satisfied customer!

My wife and I accidentally swapped numbers, which means that it appears that I beat her. I find this hilarious, but she doesn’t. Could you please swap them?

Thanks to everyone for a well-organised race and a superb route.

Annual Dinner from Karen Carr

As last year’s February ‘do’ was so successful, we’ve decided to do it again except this year it will be a March ‘do’. We’ve booked

The Ship Inn at Alveston on Saturday 3rd March for a three course meal followed by tea or coffee.

The entertainment will be from Pete Mainstone (he hasn’t agreed yet) and Paul da Vinci who was so good last year.

For anyone who didn’t come to last year’s do, Paul da Vinci was the lead singer with The Rubettes (of Sugar Baby Love fame!) You tube link and he was very good. Most of us danced the night away which will hopefully happen again this year apart from Rob who is excused from dancing as he is running all night the previous night. The cost will be £24 per person.

The choice of food is:

Starters:

Mushroom and spinach tart

Cauliflower and cheese soup

Mini warm beetroot and butternut squash salad

Black pudding and leek stack with cider mustard sauce

Mains:

Pork loin topped with apricots and peaches

Chicken Dijon with a timbale of rice and green beans

Salmon Pivier with butter and chive new potatoes and salad

Nut wellington with buttered new potatoes and chef’s vegetables

Desserts:

Sticky toffee and pear pudding

Vanilla oven baked cheesecake with black cherry compote

Ice cream

Eton mess

Tea or Coffee

We hope as many of you as possible will be able to come along to what promises to be a great night out.

Please let me know if you will be able to come to my excuse for a new dress or if you have any questions.

Club Night News 12th Jan

Route: It’s the final round of the Winter Handicap this week. As usual there will probably be an alternative run too.

Rollick

It’s the River Bank Rollick this Sunday, and Dave Andrews has enough marshals, so everyone else can race!! Lets see if we can get a good show of Thornbury shirts on the start line, there will certainly be plenty of support around the course.

Rob

Club Night News 5th Jan

Route: Round town 4 A fairly short figure of 8 that could be lengthened by a quick blast up the Golf Club entrance road.

Rollick Marshals

Sorry to go on about this but we really need more volunteers to help marshal this IMPORTANT event, which is just over a week away. Please contact Dave Andrews d@ddandrews.fsnet.co.uk or there will be a sheet to sign at club on Thursday.

Lock Up Rota

Nigel Hale to lock up this week (5th Jan) then Liam Jones next week, also 3rd and final round of the Winter Handicap next week.

XC UPDATE from Judy Mills

On the website it says we will be including the Gloucester Championships on 7th January as one of the qualifying races for the Club XC champs. After some discussion we think, since the Club doesn’t actually gain anything by taking part, it would be better to concentrate on getting teams out for the remaining Gwent and Gloucester fixtures. There are enough other races for the Club champs to be decided-on.

GWR Towpath 10k series

Local Fell Races from Wilf Burke

This is a link to a two fell races that I have run a couple of times in recent years: http://www.wfra.me.uk/
The first is in Monmouth this Saturday 7th January. A short race of just under 4 miles and, unusually, there are not only changing rooms but also showers.
The second is a little further afield, in the Quantock Hills, on Saturday 25th February. This is a little longer at 7.5 miles and facilities are limited to shelter from the trees in a car park that is too small. There may be a chance to see some old friends as Jon and Lorraine Croome have run for the past couple of years – and Jon has a score to settle after he twisted his ankle on the final descent last year.
Presentations for both will be in the local pub after the race – which seems to be the common thread linking most fell races.
If anyone wants more information or to share transport they can contact me on 0117 9509235 or wilfburke@hotmail.com.
