Club Night News 23rd May

Once again not a lot of news has made it’s way into my inbox.  Are my mail filters a little too strict……perhaps I should put Gareth, Pete and Arthur back on the ‘trusted’ list?

I won’t just re-hash last week’s post but as a way of an update, Bitton Road Runners have shifted over 1000 places for the Sodbury Slog and as I write this there are only 198 192 places left.

Other events you might be interested in include the Bradley Stoke 10k on June 9th (almost full), the Oldbury Fun Run on June 16th and not forgetting our very own Sunday’s Hill 10k (which we will be asking for marshalls soon).

Results

If you have checked the results page this week you’ll notice most of this week’s updates are around the Cape Wrath Challenge.  I find it hard work to talk about, never mind to think about trying to do it, therefore I’ll let one of the participants fill us all in on Thursday night.  So I’ll say no more other than well done to those who took part.

ROUTE

Last week -A quick apology to those I dragged around last week as a temporary group leader.  We went a little further, a little faster with a few more hills than advertised, but to be fair I didn’t hear too many complaints….but that may have been through exhaustion, both mine and yours!

This week – Let’s head down towards Oldbury following this old favourite.  If you want to make it a little longer (with an extra hill trown in) then continue along the lane up to the church, go down into Oldbury and then make your way back out into the countryside through the garden of the Anchor pub – http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3878628

Club Night News 16th May

All seems pretty quiet at the moment and so I’ll just put down some reminders;

* Drop me an email if you are interested in a discounted Bristol Half Marathon place

* Sodbury Slog entry should be opening today and I suggest you get in early if you want a place as they go pretty quick

* The first of the summer series of the monthly fast and flat Bitton 5K races start tomorrow for the princely sum of £4 per race for affiliated runners

* We have a provisional date of Thursday 20th of June for our annual mob match with Chepstow Harriers

* Keep an eye out for more details of the forth coming summer party with a live band as usual

ROUTE – Mainly off road and quite long this is an interesting route taking in a number of the local villages.  Don’t worry about the distance as if any group thinks it is a little too far then it can be easily shortened by heading direct to Old Down just after mile two – http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=3824922

Track availability

Please note that the track will be in use for AAA Open Meetings on the following two Tuesdays: 14 May, 18 June.  On those two evenings we will arrange a training session in Thornbury (Mundy’s Field) – meeting slightly later than usual at 6.45pm.

Results

Not a great deal of results that I am aware of other than Martyn Green giving Ben something to think about by posting a 36:12 at last weekend’s Bristol 10K.  Ten other TRC runner’s took part with Clare Watt being first TRC woman home in 46:13.

ROUTE - A nice little route that takes us through a small blue bell wood in Milbury Heath (watch out for the hill though) - Blue Bell Route 2

Club Night News 2nd May

You are all invited to the TRC skittles and quiz night  from 7pm on Saturday 11th May at the Wheatsheaf pub in Thornbury. Plenty of food and fun on offer and its FREE to TRC members. Friends and family welcome at £6 each to cover costs. Everyone’s invited – just give names and numbers to Jo Plumbley by email (jo.Plumbley@gmail.com) or on club night as soon as possible so numbers can be confirmed.

Discounted Bristol Half entry anyone?

As a local running club we can get discounts on bulk entries to the Bristol Half Marathon, the more entries we have the bigger the discount.  We have already reached the threshold for a 25% discount on each entry.  If you are interested please send me an email TRCCaptain@hotmail.co.uk and I’ll add you to the list.

Quite a few to catch up on so here we go……

On the marathon front four TRC runners took part in this year’s London Marathon with Andrew Darton coming home first for the club in 3:22:57.

On the same day Rob Watkins ran a measured race (paraphrasing his own words) in completing the Great Welsh Marathon in 3:11:04 and at the same time gaining a good for age place in next year’s London Marathon……..as well as giving me a training partner for the race if my knee ever recovers!

Not long after coming back to the club Ben Toomer put in a rather handy display at the Frenchay 10k coming home in FIRST place with a 35:54.

A good number a people have been regularly turning out at the Little Stoke 5k Park and a I feel a particular mention should go to John Francksen who over the course of this year has reduced his pb by 2m 30sec down to 25:26.

ROUTE – Let’s see a bit more of the countryside by following this route – http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5865211

Club Night News 25th April

Sorry it has been so quiet on here all but I have been poorly sick!!

The Riverbank Rollick

Well by the sounds of it the Rollick went down as well as ever, good racing, good fun and great cake!  Please go the event page for the full report but from a TRC standpoint Garry Slater was first home in sixth and part of the all conquering Men’s team, Mike Willis was first MV60 and Ros was our first lady home.

Skittles and Quiz night

We have made a booking for catered Skittle and Quiz night down the Wheatsheaf in Thornbury on the 11th of May.   It won’t cost members a penny and you can bring a guest for £6, so put it in your diaries now!

ROUTE – We venture further into the countryside each week – http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5899902

Club Night News 11th April

Lots of things to get through this week so I’ll try to keep it brief.

Thornbury Leisure is our new home

Don’t forget we are now based at Thornbury Leisure Centre.  Last week was our first and we (the Committee) would like to know what you think.  As I can’t run much at the moment please let me know your thoughts via email (TRCCaptain@hotmail.co.uk) or speak to one of the other committee members.

A message for Riverbank Rollick marshals – ******** Updated org listing *********

Dave Andrews has ask me to post the following pdf listing marshalling positions and timings for this weekend’s re-scheduled Riverbank Rollick – Rollick Race Day Org v2

Committee meeting on Thursday

If you have anything you’d like discussing at the Committee meeting taking place after club on Thursday night then please let me or one of the Committee members know.

Cotswold Way Relay

Try to keep Saturday the 29th of June free as that is the date of this year’s Cotswold Way Relay.  We will try to enter as many teams as we can but this depends on many people fancy running.  This is a great event going through some stunning countryside and don’t think this is just for our fastest runners, everyone is welcome.  We are also looking for someone to be our point of contact for this year, anyone interested?

ROUTE – It is getting lighter by the week and so we’ll venture off road just a little more this week – http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5865178

Club Night News 4th April

Well what else can go first other than WE HAVE MOVED TO THORNBURY LEISURE CENTRE now so please don’t go down to Turnberries!

Results

Lots of good runs at the Little Stoke Park with Martyn Green getting back nearer his best with an 18 minutes dead.  Three other runners have ‘PB’ against their times but I’m not sure if that is just for the Park Run series or out and out PBs.  If they were PBs then let me know and I’ll update this post giving you the recognition you deserve trccaptain@hotmail.co.uk)!

Who said chocolate was bad for you?  Part of our Welsh contingent certainly don’t think so as club members Andy and Nicola picked up Ist MV45  (18:21) and 1st LV40 (23:35) and their son(?) who runs for Brecon got a PB in 17:10 in the Chocoholics 5Km last weekend.

Although John Grimsey does a trawl of local results looking for TRC runners, if you want to be sure you efforts are recorded then please don’t be shy and send him (john.grimsey@sword-apak.com) an email telling him what you have been upto highlighting PBs etc .

Take part in club triathletes’ injury study

A national study is under way aimed at club triathletes, looking at sport-related injuries over the 2013 season. This involves completing two 10 minute online surveys, one now and one in the autumn. The first of these surveys is now open until 14th April 2013 – you can click on the link to take part: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8DDP8ZJ

ROUTE – Finally, even though I’m not sure Spring has sprung, we can start heading off road for little bit now on Thursday nights.   Here is the first of many off road routes from Mr Grimsey senior -  http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5864000. If anyone else has some ideas please let me know (trccaptain@hotmail.co.uk).

WE HAVE MOVED

Everyone please remember that we are now based out of Thornbury Leisure Centre

Club Night News 28th March

Sorry all some IT problems last night meant I have only just got around to doing this week’s post.

It’s the final countdown

This is our last night night at Turnberries this week as after Easter we are off to the Leisure Centre.  I’ll make sure we have someone doing a sweep up next week from Turnberries but please can you remind anyone you know who might be away?

ROUTE – Up the hill to Alveston  – Up the Hill Route 2
